FROM THE RUNWAY TO RUGS: PRETTY AND PINK HOLDS SWAY.
Rug suppliers have responded with soft floral designs and cheery palettes for the January market.
Seville, a new design from Capel, features rose bouquets in three palatable color ways: kiwi, cream and daiquiri.
Small tropical birds and butterflies hide among the bright pink and blue flowers in Flower Vines, a new petit point wool style from The Rug Market. Flower Vines retails for $299 for a 6-by-9.
In Bellingrad, a new design from Oriental Weavers of America's Vintage collection by Raymond Waites, opulent floral arrangements pour out of urns on a background that comes in navy, wine or ivory. Machine-woven of heat-set olefin, Bellingrad retails for $299 for a 6-by-9.
Laguna Beach from MER's Flores Collection features a field of blossoms in a quiet palette of lilac, pink and yellow. The cotton petit point rug retails for $399 for a 5-by-8.
Many of these styles take their inspiration from antique rugs and tapestries, such as those offered in Atlanta by Chaman Antique Rug Gallery.
On the lighter side, Homefires, a division of Cresc Corp., appeals to women's sense of humor with Working Girl, by licensed artist Cynthia MacCollum. High-heeled shoes, lipstick, a coffee mug and a telephone are scattered across the field of this hand-hooked wool rug, reflecting the hectic lives of today's women. Available in sizes ranging from a 2-by-3 to a 5-by-8, Working Girl will retail for approximately $320 in the largest size.
