FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE: LONELY AMERICAN MEN CONNECT WITH ATTRACTIVE WOMEN OF THE FORMER U.S.S.R. THROUGH INNOVATIVE, NEW INTRODUCTION SERVICE

HOUSTON, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- What language barrier? American ingenuity has bridged the communication gap with Eastern-bloc women through a language understood worldwide, Love.
An innovative Houston company, Club Prima, has been playing matchmaker for thousands of former Soviet bloc women who want to meet Western men.
Since the introduction service ran an advertisement in a Russian news magazine early last year, women from throughout the former Soviet Union have been writing to find American and Canadian companionship, according to the club's founder, Robert Neighbors.
The women were asked to send a letter with a photo and description of themselves. Neighbors said he was overwhelmed when hundreds of letters a week poured in.
"Thousands of ladies have responded," he said. "All kinds of ladies, all kinds of heights, weights, and colors." He chose 500 women and compiled a catalogue complete with descriptions -- like this one of Lada: "I'm 5-foot-8 and 128 pounds. I am a tall and slender girl with a beautiful figure." She wants to meet "a kind, faithful man."
He says he has been amazed by the women who apply and the men who use the service.
"A great many of the women are college educated. Their photos in our brochure show how inaccurate the stereotype is of Soviet women looking like Olympic weight lifters," said Neighbors.
"Americans are taught that Russian women are big-boned and look like peasants," Neighbors said. "But you can see that many of them are slender, blonde and blue-eyed, especially those from the western regions. These women would like to come to America and start a new life."
Neighbors emphasizes that Club Prima has made the leap into the information age with the most modern communication methods available. The company provides customers with a printed 500-photo catalogue, 1,100 images of women on a still photo videotape for $40, and international fax services, individual addresses are only $10 each.
Neighbors said his company is currently working on establishing electronic e-mail service in the former Soviet Union to bring the customers electronic mail to and from citizens in the CIS, ensuring more rapid and secure correspondence. Postal service in the Commonwealth is often slow and intermittent.
"Rapidly emerging capitalism and communication go hand in hand," said Neighbors. "It was amazing to discover there are already over 480 Commonwealth citizens with home-based PCs linked to e-mail networks."
