FRITZ SELECTED AS HALLIBURTON'S GLOBAL LOGISTICS PARTNER

SAN FRANCISCO, June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Halliburton Logging Services (HLS) of Fort Worth, Texas, has chosen Fritz Companies Inc. (NASDAQ: FRTZ) as their global logistics partner. HLS, created in 1989 through a merger of Halliburton's Welex division with Fort Worth Gearhardt Industries, is one of the leaders in the wire line oil field services industry.
Recognizing Fritz as America's leading integrated logistics services provider, HLS selected Fritz to provide all domestic and international transportation logistics services. As HLS' partner, Fritz Companies transports equipment throughout Europe, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. Fritz proactively manages HLS's contingencies, handling all documentation forwarding, packing and crating, domestic shipping and air and ocean transportation services.
Steve Robinson, Fritz industry specialist in Houston, and Hank Broadnax, Fritz national account executive in Houston, met with managers of HLS for one week in Fort Worth in the fall of 1992 to conduct an in-depth process review to determine the integrated logistics program that would best serve HLS' worldwide needs.
HLS was interested in working with a leading global logistics company who could provide a "totally seamless" integrated logistics service by taking over those functions previously executed in-house, such as documentation, packing and crating, air and ocean freight forwarding, and domestic shipping.
The purpose was to allow HLS to concentrate on their prime business managing the macro level while leaving the micro-management of the international transportation program to Fritz. Fritz hired 12 former HLS employees to work on-site at the HLS plant in Fort Worth. They will perform the packing and crating, including all domestic and international documentation services, under Fritz's guidance. Commented Broadnax, "We did not want to reinvent the wheel. By hiring former HLS employees to handle their business and integrating them into this operation, along with our Fritz employees in our DFW operation, we have been able to bring this operations on very smoothly and in an almost transparent manner. This has made the transition much easier for HLS since they can identify with the same employees." Fritz is pleased with the hiring of former HLS employees to control the international movement of their cargo. This arrangement is unique in the industry. Integrating internal HLS functions with processes traditionally performed by Fritz effectively transfers traditional fixed costs of operations to incremental costs borne by the client.
Fritz developed a new software application, FLEXport, which creates all the international documents necessary for the client to receive goods from vendors, to receive and ship from their own plants and to export goods. This enhances the productivity of HLS operations tremendously because, prior to engaging Fritz as their partner, they could not track shipments from origin to destination. As Champman Norman, HLS materials manager noted, "We are especially happy about the new partnership with Fritz, as we can use their resources and expertise to get the job done for less costs overall than we were paying previously and who can complain about that?" Last year HLS volume exceeded 3,800 global shipments nearing a total of 2.5 million pounds of freight.
Broadnax explained, "This partnership is a tremendous opportunity for Fritz Companies. We are honored to provide our services to one of the leading oil field services companies. Their choosing us is a compliment to our personnel, our services and our global network of offices and agents. This is a truly integrated logistics partnership. We are learning their business and rationalizing the role of the pipeline, guiding Halliburton through the most beneficial methods. Through our personnel and support systems, we can offer HLS a truly seamless, economical and expeditious integrated service on a world-wide basis."
Since its founding in 1933, Fritz' office network and scope of services has expanded continually to become a leader in providing worldwide transportation logistics services. As the first organization in the United States to offer a full range of global integrated logistics services, Fritz Companies is the leader in assisting multinational corporations in reducing costs and improving customer services by optimizing flows through a client's logistics pipeline.
