 FRITO-LAY APPOINTS JAMES V. MCCONNELL JR. VICE PRESIDENT,
 ADVERTISING AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS
 PLANO, Texas, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Frito-Lay, Inc., a division of PepsiCo, Inc. (NYSE: PEP), today announced the appointment of James V. McConnell Jr., as vice president, advertising and public affairs. He will report to Frito-Lay Chairman Roger A. Enrico.
 McConnell, who for the past two years has served as president and chief operating officer of J.W. Thompson Japan, is filling a newly created position.
 In his new role, McConnell will be responsible for advertising and the public image of the world's largest manufacturer and marketer of snack foods. Specifically, he will manage the full range of creative for existing Frito-Lay brands (which include such household names as Doritos (R), Tostitos (R), Lay's (R), Ruffles (R), Fritos (R) and Chee.Tos (R)) and new products. He will direct the work of Frito-Lay's three advertising agencies, BBDO, Tracy-Locke and DDB Needham Worldwide. In addition, McConnell will be responsible for Frito-Lay's public affairs, media and graphics.
 "Jim's strategic insight and creative expertise will greatly enhance Frito-Lay advertising," said Enrico. "We'll also leverage his talents against our total image to present a consistently imaginative presence in the marketplace."
 McConnell is a veteran of 31 years of varied ad agency experience. He began his career at N.W. Ayer & Son in 1961 and has since held positions with some of the most successful national and international agencies.
 In his most recent position at J.W. Thompson, McConnell was responsible for managing account billings exceeding $220 million. His clients included Unilever, Kellogg, Nestle, DeBeers, Esso, Kodak and Kraft General Foods. Immediately prior to joining J.W. Thompson, he served as executive vice president, worldwide account director for Foote, Cone & Belding.
 During his career, McConnell has been responsible for such accounts as Colgate-Palmolive Worldwide, Eastern Airlines, Howard Johnson's and Polaroid. Among his advertising campaign credits is the successful seven-year James Garner and Mariette Hartley campaign for Polaroid.
