FRENCH WOMAN CONQUERS MOUNTAINOUS MAALOX MOMENT(TM)

FRENCH WOMAN CONQUERS MOUNTAINOUS MAALOX MOMENT(TM)
 PHILADELPHIA, March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Catherine Destivelle, a

resident of Paris, was anointed "Queen of the Peaks" after becoming the first woman to climb Eiger's North Face, "the most dangerous mountain wall in the Alps" -- alone.
More than 700 climbers have reached the peak and 50 have died trying. Destivelle's climb was particularly perilous because she made the 13,024-foot climb despite winter's ice, snow and freezing temperatures. The historic climb took 16-1/2 hours, including time when Destivelle edged along in the dark. For most of the climb, she gripped the icy rock with her bare hands. When she reached the top, her American friend, climber Jeff Lowe, was waiting with a down comforter.
After descending the mountain, Destivelle greeted reporters by asking for chocolate ice cream. She then added, "It was long and it was difficult, but I expected this and everything went exactly as planned."
The 32-year-old physiotherapist started out before dawn from a base camp at 6,890 feet and used a lamp on a hard hat to pick her way through the darkness. In a backpack, she carried extra batteries for the lamp, a half-gallon of water, dried fruit, clamps, buckles and 165 feet of rope. She did not take a tent or heater.
"Catherine Destivelle's solo climb took tremendous skill and courage," said Patricia Wojdyla, vice president of marketing for Rhone-Poulenc Rorer Pharmaceuticals Inc., the maker of Maalox(R) products. "Her success proved that she is able to handle any Maalox Moment(TM), a situation that can occur when the challenges of 'taking life on' play havoc with your stomach. This woman's determined spirit is a credit to her sport and an inspiration for people everywhere."
For her outstanding accomplishment, Destivelle has been selected by Rhone-Poulenc Rorer to receive the most recent Maalox Moment Award.
As part of the award, Destivelle will receive a supply of Extra Strength Maalox Plus tablets to help her manage acid indigestion or heartburn that may accompany stressful and challenging situations in the future. In addition, she will receive a "Maalox Moment Survival Kit" for support as she plans to conquer the next mountain.
The Maalox Moment Award is presented on a regular basis to individuals or groups who successfully manage a stressful situation that has occurred in any aspect of their daily lives. Past recipients have included Paul Wylie, Barbara Bush, the coaches of the 1992 Super Bowl teams and the Minnesota Twins, winners of the 1991 World Series.
