FREEMAN COSMETIC CORP. TO HOST FOURTH ANNUAL
FREEMAN ACES CANCER TENNIS TOURNAMENT (FACTT), MAY 16
Leaders from Business, Sports, Medicine Will Attend
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Freeman Cosmetic Corp. will join forces with the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at USC (Los Angeles) for the fourth year in a row to fund the fight against cancer. The international manufacturer of natural hair and skin treatments will host its fourth annual Freeman Aces Cancer Tennis Tournament (FACTT) on May 16 at the Beverly Hills Country Club.
The company has raised nearly $500,000 for cancer research at previous FACTT events and plans to raise another $250,000 this year, according to Freeman Cosmetic Corp. Chief Executive Officer and founder Larry Freeman.
The day of tennis and entertainment is completely underwritten and organized by the Freeman Cosmetic Corp., so that all money raised at the event will be donated directly to Norris. Once again, Westwood One Radio Networks will join the effort as tournament sponsor. In addition to a generous cash donation, Westwood One Chief Executive Officer Norman Pattiz is again serving on FACTT's Tournament Committee.
The afternoon, billed as "FACTT Fiesta Mexicana," will feature competitions between tennis players of all skill levels, as well as music and Mexican-style entertainment, gaming tables and a roulette wheel. A gift raffle, silent auction, high-stakes live auction, conducted by actor and comedian Lyle Waggoner, and a barbecue dinner will complete the afternoon.
"We are enormously gratified by the success of FACTT," said Freeman. "Each year is more successful than the last, and we get tremendous satisfaction knowing that the money we raise at FACTT goes directly to advanced cancer and lymphoma research at the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center's superb research and treatment facilities," Freeman said.
Freeman was recently named a member of the board of directors of the Kenneth Norris Jr. Cancer Hospital, in recognition of his commitment and extensive efforts in the fight against cancer. Freeman will host the day with his wife Judy, daughter Jill and son Mark, all of whom are active in FACTT's fund-raising efforts.
Notables from the worlds of business and sports will attend, including John Robinson, former USC head coach (who is serving as FACTT chairman), Lorna and Charles Reed (Mrs. Reed is a member of the USC board of trustees and the Norris Cancer Hospital board of directors and president of the Norris Hospital Auxiliary; Mr. Reed is president of Ahmanson Services Inc.) and David Brubaker, president of P. Leiner Nutritional Products.
The medical community will be represented by leading researchers and physicians at Norris, including FACTT committee members Dr. Art and Priscilla Ulene, Brian Henderson, M.D., director of USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, AIDS-related cancer specialist and USC chief of hematology, Alexandra M. Levine, M.D., Alan Epstein, M.D., associate professor of pathology, Dan Douer, M.D., director of Norris Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, Don Feinstein, M.D., hematologist and professor of medicine, and Clive Taylor, M.D., D. Phil., chairman of pathology at the USC School of Medicine.
Tickets to the event are $250, which includes one player in the tournament and dinner for two. Sponsorships are available for $1,100, $2,500 and $3,500; the latter includes dinner for 10, a gold page in the ad journal, four player spots in the tournament, a tennis court banner and gifts. Spectators may attend the day's events for $125 per person, which includes dinner and entertainment.
