FREED MAN.. FOR A FEE; EXCLUSIVE.

Byline: ALAN NIXON

BOLTON are paying a PS500,000 transfer fee to take boss Dougie Freedman from Crystal Palace.

The Scot was in talks with Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside last night after being cleared by Palace to sort out his future when the Championship rivals agreed a compensation figure. Freedman seems sure to accept the post - although he will not be in charge in time for the game at Wolves tonight - as he said he wanted to talk to the "bigger" club.

Freedman will get a far larger package than the PS250,000 a year he's on at Selhurst Park, with his deal there ending next summer. Bolton are offering Freedman the chance to take a squad he says are "best in the Championship" back to the top flight - despite trailing Palace in the table.

Bolton haggled for hours to seal the deal before Eagles went north for tonight's game with Barnsley.
