FREE EYEGLASSES FOR PENNSYLVANIA'S NEEDY OFFERED BY HERSHEY FOODS AND MORRISON INTERNATIONAL

HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Over the next 18 months, thousands of needy Pennsylvanians will receive free eye screenings and free eyeglasses thanks to MORR-SIGHT(TM), a special program made possible by Hershey Foods Corporation and Morrison International, Inc.
MORR-SIGHT, a state-of-the-art mobile eye care clinic/lab developed by Dr. Robert Morrison, a former co-holder of the patent for the soft contact lens, aims to improve the vision of needy citizens.
MORR-SIGHT combines hi-tech ophthalmic examination equipment with a revolutionary system for producing low-cost eyeglasses. A computer- aided examination system quickly determines a prescription for each person. The prescription eyeglasses are then prepared without any of the grinding and cutting required in traditional eyeglasses manufacturing. The result is an extremely quick and efficient eye care clinic which dispenses prescription eyeglasses within minutes.
The patented MORR-SIGHT eyeglasses are fully adjustable to fit almost all facial contours and are suitable for men, women and children.
"It has always been a dream of mine to help fill the huge void in basic ophthalmic care which exists around the world and surprisingly, right here in Pennsylvania," said Dr. Robert Morrison. "It is extremely satisfying to see MORR-SIGHT take to the road," he added.
Hershey Foods is the first corporation to underwrite a MORR-SIGHT mobile unit.
"We are very pleased to support this effort to bring quality eye care to people who in the past have not had access to it," said Richard Zimmerman, chairman and CEO of Hershey Foods Corporation. "As we approach our centennial anniversary in 1994, we could think of no better way to celebrate our heritage than to give something back to the community."
MORR-SIGHT will travel to a number of areas in Pennsylvania. Some counties already scheduled are: Dauphin, Perry, Cumberland, Lebanon, York, Lancaster, Berks and Schuykill.
"Our organization is very pleased to be involved with MORR-SIGHT. There is a tremendous need for eye care in the poorer areas of our community and this project is helping us address those needs," said Valerie Weiner, executive director of the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind.
Dr. Morrison, chairman of Morrison International, Inc., gained widespread distinction by pioneering the use of the soft contact lens. He has been knighted for his efforts in bringing eye care to developing countries and has fitted contact lenses for numerous movies stars, royalty and heads of state.
Morrison International, Inc., with offices in Sarasota, Fla., and Harrisburg, Pa., is committed to a vision of the future that all can see. The company is headed by Dr. Robert Morrison's son, James Morrison, who is responsible for the scientific advancements behind this technology.
The 18-month tour is being underwritten in association with the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind.
