FPL HURRICANE ANDREW RESTORATION UPDATE

 FPL HURRICANE ANDREW RESTORATION UPDATE
MIAMI, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Comments from Bill Hamilton, FPL vice

president of customer service:
This weekend will be a three-day holiday weekend for many. Please do not use the occasion to tour South Dade. Please keep roads clear for FPL crews and other emergency restoration efforts. Please keep areas around power poles and ground level transformers free of debris. This will help speed the work of utility crews. The utility easements that need to be kept clear -- areas that provide access to electric equipment -- are generally either in the front or rear of your home or business.
Please continue to use portable generators safely. Keep it in a well-ventilated area. Plug appliances directly into the generator or use extension cords between the generator and appliances.
In all neighborhoods, but especially south of Kendall Drive in heavily damaged areas of Dade County, please continue to treat all downed power lines as if they were energized and stay away from them.
IN DADE COUNTY THE CUSTOMER LINE -- for emergencies and downed sparking wires ONLY at this time -- is 305-442-8770.
NEIGHBORHOODS WITH PARTIAL POWER -- If some of your neighbors have power and you don't, it may be that power lines or transformers serving your home are damaged -- or it may be that your home wiring has damage. If you have any concerns about the structural soundness of your home or home wiring -- seek assistance from a general contractor and/or a licensed electrician.
For those customers in South Dade with homes that are severely damaged or destroyed, FPL will be working with you in the coming weeks to provide a "temporary service" option to run saws or other construction tools. This effort will need to be coordinated with your contractor or licensed electrician.
And finally, while our crews are most appreciative of the encouragement and words of thanks they have been receiving from the public, we would ask customers not to attempt to engage them in lengthy discussions. Our crews don't want to seem to be rude, but they still have a lot of work to do to get all customers back in service. Your cooperation in this regard is appreciated.
