FPL HURRICANE ANDREW RESTORATION OVERVIEW

 FPL HURRICANE ANDREW RESTORATION OVERVIEW
MIAMI, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- FPL today released the following

comments from FPL President Steve Frank:
On Day 11 of FPL's hurricane restoration effort, approximately 145,000 customer accounts remain without power in Dade County. Included in that number are tens of thousands of unfortunate customers in the southern areas of the county whose homes have been destroyed or condemned and who would not be able to accept service if it were available.
In that area, and elsewhere in Dade, crews from FPL and other sources continue to make steady progress in restoring electricity. More than 4,000 crew members from FPL, other utilities, and contractors are assigned to restoration work throughout the weekend. In a moment, Bob Marshall will provide details on that effort, including some estimated dates on which certain communities may be restored.
We wish to express our appreciation for the consideration and patience shown by customers who still do not have power, and we want to emphasize that all of our crews are working without letup to make electricity available again.
As we enter the weekend, we again request that motorists do everything possible to keep the roads clear not only for utility crews, but also for all of the other official vehicles from government and other organizations involved in recovery from the hurricane. Traffic, combined with severe hurricane damage to our facilities, continue to be the most significant obstacles to our power restoration efforts.
This weekend, an additional factor is the weather. We understand the forecast calls for thunderstorms, which could hamper our work. Although we can and do work in the rain, we must curtail restoration if lightning becomes a threat.
