FOWLER TO RETIRE AS MOBIL'S GENERAL COUNSEL; GILLESPIE NAMED AS HIS REPLACEMENT

 FAIRFAX, Va., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- J. Edward Fowler, general counsel of Mobil Corporation (NYSE: MOB) and Mobil Oil Corporation has elected to retire January 1, l995, after more than 26 years of service, Lucio A. Noto, chairman and chief executive officer of Mobil, announced today.
 Samuel H. Gillespie, III,, associate general counsel in Mobil's Corporate Office of General Counsel, was named as Mr. Fowler's replacement.
 Mr. Fowler, who will be 63 at retirement, is a graduate of Princeton University and the Yale Law School. He joined Mobil in l968 as counsel in the Corporate Office of General Counsel. In l969 he became general counsel of Mobil East, Inc., a part of the International Division, and in l974 was appointed general counsel of that division. In l979 he was named associate general counsel of Mobil Corporation, and in l983 assumed the position of general counsel of the Marketing and Refining Division. He was elected to his current position in l986.
 In serving as a senior legal counselor to four CEO's and their boards, "Ed Fowler has played a central role in many of the company's most important ventures, such as Mobil's Indonesian liquefied natural gas project," Mr. Noto said. "The professional excellence and positive business role of Mobil's in-house legal group, as well as the company's continuing good record on legal matters, are a tribute to Ed's leadership and example."
 Mr. Gillespie, 52, is a graduate of Middlebury College and the Vanderbilt University Law School. He was an associate with Milbank, Tweed, Hadley and McCloy before joining Mobil in l982 as counsel with the company's Alternate Energy/Synfuels group in New York. He became counsel in the Corporate Office of General Counsel in l983, and assistant general counsel, Mobil South, in Marketing and Refining International in l985 and assistant general counsel, Marketing and Refining Division, in l987. He became assistant general counsel in the Exploration and Producing Division in l989 and was named general counsel of the division in l990. He assumed his current responsibilities in July, l994.
