FOURTH SHIFT'S JIT ENTERPRISE SYSTEM RELEASE 2.7 SHIPPED TO CUSTOMERS

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Fourth Shift Corporation (NASDAQ: FSFT) today announced shipment of Release 2.7 of its JIT Enterprise System, a UNIX/Oracle-based industrial management software system. Release 2.7 includes new functionality and significant improvements in ease of use and system security.
The new release comprises 31 application modules. The Multi-Plant, Purchasing and Accounts Payable modules have been greatly enhanced and more tightly integrated. New functionality includes As Designed versus As Built Detail, Inspection Control Maintenance, Multi-Plant Shipments Inquiry and Daily Receipts Open and Closed.
To improve ease of use, many JIT menus were restructured. Top-level menus are now organized to present JIT functions from a business operations perspective.
Release 2.7 is accompanied by a full set of user manuals and installation utilities. Full help-text capability is being added for every field. Field hints are presented automatically. In addition, the new release contains an enhanced version of the JIT Toolbox, which helps users personalize and maintain the JIT system.
Release 2.7 also contains enhanced security features. The log-in process is simpler and provides more security. Each JIT log-in must present a unique user name and password, which is validated as each form is entered.
"The response from our customers has been overwhelmingly positive," said Vice President and General Manager Jim Kridel. "Release 2.7 represents a significant step forward for JIT and our customers can expect continued improvements in functionality and quality in the months ahead."
The JIT division has added more than 50 implementation consultants, project managers and programmers in the past 10 months to meet the increasing demand for its products and services, Kridel added. Furthermore, JIT has expanded its partnering relationships with two large systems integration firms, EDS and SHL Systemhouse.
The JIT Enterprise System was first released in 1989. Fourth Shift acquired the product line in December 1992 to complement its existing PC/LAN product line. JIT is installed in many Fortune 500 sites in North America, and has begun expansion into the European Community. Release 2.7 is available directly from Fourth Shift Corporation.
