FOURTH CONSECUTIVE PROFITABLE QUARTER FOR WINNEBAGO INDUSTRIES

FOREST CITY, Iowa, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Winnebago Industries, Inc. (NYSE: WGO) today reported revenues of $77,462,000 for the second quarter ended Feb. 27, 1993, a 29 percent increase compared to revenues of $59,987,000 for the same period one year ago.
Net earnings for the second quarter totaled $407,000, or 2 cents per share. This was a considerable improvement over the net loss of $5,492,000, or 22 cents per share, for the same quarter last year.
For the company's first six months ended Feb. 27, 1993, revenues were $160,878,000, a 34 percent increase compared to revenues of $120,162,000 for the comparable six months a year ago. Net earnings for the first six months of fiscal 1993 were $1,524,000, or 6 cents per share, versus a net loss, before cumulative effect of change in accounting principle, of $7,332,000, or 29 cents per share.
According to Winnebago Industries President Fred Dohrmann, motor home shipments increased nearly 24 percent in the second quarter compared to the same period a year ago. "We attribute this increase to generally improved market conditions for recreation vehicles and continued gains in market share of Winnebago Industries motor home products. Our market share improvement is due to the company's increase in new motor home product offerings and the recognition by dealers and retail customers of the high-quality standards continually met by our `Team Winnebago,'" Dohrmann said.
"The 1993 Winnebago Warrior and Itasca Passage motor home lines have been further expanded to include a second entry in this low-cost Class A segment," Dohrmann continued. Available at an introductory suggested base retail price of only $29,995, the new Warrior and Passage 25RU models feature a rear bedroom with either a walk-around double bed or optional twin beds with two overhead cabinets which convert into youth beds. "These new 25-foot models present an exciting opportunity for consumers to inexpensively enter the enticing recreation vehicle lifestyle," Dohrmann concluded.
