FOUNDATION POSTS SOLID ENROLLMENT GAINS IN CALENDAR 1992

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Foundation Health Corp. (NYSE: FH) today announced that enrollment in its medical, dental and vision HMOs and insured managed care products grew 18.8 percent to 941,000 during the 12 months ended Dec. 31, 1992.
The growth reflects, in part, the strategic acquisition in October of AVP Vision Plans, which had enrollment of 31,000 on Dec. 31. The acquisitions in October of Century MediCorp Inc., with its Southern California HMOs and Occupational Health Services (OHS), a behavioral health managed care company, were accounted for as pooling transactions, and their enrollment has been combined with Foundation's on a historical basis.
For the quarter ended Dec. 31, 1992, enrollment in the company's insured PPO and medical HMOs, including the Century HMOs, grew at an annualized rate of 10.3 percent. The combined enrollment for these medical risk products was 447,000 at Dec. 31.
"Our company now touches more than 3 million eligible beneficiaries through our specialty managed care, HMO, insured, self-funded and government services subsidiaries," said Daniel D. Crowley, president and chief executive officer of Foundation. "Our company is positioning itself to be a significant force as the country tries to deal with the problem of rising health care costs. Our goal of diversifying and becoming a balanced company with government and commercial, funded and self-funded lines of business is becoming a reality."
Crowley added, "We are surprised by the recent weakness in our stock price. We continue to be comfortable with analysts' estimates of 55 cents to 60 cents for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 1992, before a previously announced one-time restructuring charge in the range of 20 cents to 30 cents per share related to the acquisitions of Century and OHS during this quarter."
