FOUNDATION HEALTH IS DIRECTED TO PREPARE FOR MAY 1 CHAMPUS CONTRACT EXPANSION IN LOUISIANA AND TEXAS

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Foundation Health Corporation (NYSE: FH) today announced that the Department of Defense (DoD) has directed the company to proceed with preparations for an expansion of its New Orleans CHAMPUS managed care contract.
The DoD notified Foundation that the start date to administer coverage for beneficiaries affected by planned U.S. Air Force closures in Alexandria, Louisiana and Fort Worth and Austin, Texas, will remain May 1, 1993, as originally scheduled. The DoD had earlier indicated that the start date could be delayed.
"We believe that the effectiveness of the CHAMPUS managed care programs to increase access while controlling costs is borne out by the DoD's decision to move forward with the planned expansion," said Daniel D. Crowley, president and chief executive officer of Foundation. "We look forward to working with DoD to finalize the terms of the expansion."
Foundation's New Orleans contract covers approximately 22,000 eligible beneficiaries of the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services (CHAMPUS). Foundation also administers a CHAMPUS managed care program serving approximately 860,000 eligible beneficiaries in California and Hawaii.
Foundation is a leading managed health care company serving industry and government. Through its health maintenance organization, specialized managed care services and government contracting subsidiaries, the company administers a variety of health benefits for more than 3 million eligible people.
