FORMER SOVIET PRESIDENT GORBACHEV TO VISIT CHICAGO
 MERCANTILE EXCHANGE ON MAY 7
CHICAGO, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev will visit the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) on May 7, CME Chairman Jack Sandner announced today.
"We are honored to host one of the great leaders of the 20th century, the man who had the courage to take the crucial first steps toward ending the Cold War," Sandner said.
Sandner said details of Gorbachev's visit will be provided later.
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange is the world's leading center of risk and asset management, trading the value of approximately $50 billion in futures and options on a daily basis.
Sandner noted that in the past year the CME has been visited by President Bush; President Carlos Salinas de Gortari of Mexico; President Mary Robinson of Ireland; Gen. Colin Powell, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff; and other world leaders.
"Mr. Gorbachev's visit to the CME is especially fitting because we are a bastion of free markets," Sandner said. "Mr. Gorbachev's efforts to allow political freedom in the Soviet Union resulted in today's efforts to allow the miracle of economic freedom to transform that important area of the world."
