FORMER MARYLAND CONGRESSWOMAN BEVERLY B. BYRON ELECTED TO UNC INCORPORATED BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 ANNAPOLIS, Md., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- UNC Incorporated (NYSE: UNC) announced that former Maryland Congresswoman Beverly B. Byron has been elected to its board of directors.
 "We're delighted to have someone with Byron's integrity, intelligence and experience join us," UNC Chairman Dan A. Colussy said in making the announcement. "Her experience in Congress in such diverse areas as defense and the environment will be a real asset to our Board."
 Byron, a resident of Frederick, represented Maryland's Sixth Congressional District from 1978 to 1992. While in Congress, she served on a number of key committees, including the House Armed Services Committee, the Interior and Insular Affairs Committee and the Select Committee on Aging. Byron had the distinction of being the first woman to Chair an Armed Services subcommittee when she was elected to the chairmanship of the Military Personnel and Compensation subcommittee in 1987. She also served as Chairman of the Armed Services Arms Control and Disarmament Panel.
 Byron was subsequently a member of the President's Commission on Base Closing and Realignment, which has recently completed its work.
 Byron also serves on the board of directors of Baltimore Gas and Electric Company and of Farmer's and Mechanics National Bank of Maryland.
 UNC Incorporated, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, is engaged in the manufacturing and remanufacturing of jet engine and aircraft components; the overhaul of aircraft accessories and aircraft engines; the refurbishment and overhaul of helicopters; and in providing aircraft maintenance and pilot training services.
