FORMER MARYLAND CONGRESSWOMAN BEVERLY B. BYRON ELECTED TO McDONNELL DOUGLAS BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 ST. LOUIS, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Former Maryland Congresswoman Beverly B. Byron, 61, has been elected to the board of directors of McDonnell Douglas Corp. (NYSE: MD), the company announced today.
 "We are looking forward to having someone with Beverly Byron's vast expertise serving on our board of directors," said John F. McDonnell, chairman and chief executive officer. "Mrs. Byron's years of experience in Congress and leadership ability will be real assets to our board."
 Byron, a resident of Frederick, Md., represented Maryland's Sixth Congressional District in the House of Representatives for seven successive terms from 1978 until 1992. During that time she served on numerous committees, including the House Armed Services Committee, the Interior and Insular Affairs Committee and the Select Committee on Aging.
 Byron became the first woman to lead an Armed Services subcommittee when she was elected to the chairmanship of the military personnel and compensation subcommittee in 1987. Byron subsequently chaired the Armed Services arms control and disarmament panel.
 In 1992 Byron was appointed by former President George Bush and was reconfirmed by President Bill Clinton to the eight-member Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission, which completed its work in mid- 1993.
 Byron currently serves on the board of directors of Baltimore Gas and Electric Co., Farmer's and Mechanics National Bank of Maryland, and UNC Inc.
 Born in Baltimore and raised in Washington, Byron graduated from the National Cathedral School in Washington and attended Hood College in Frederick, Md. She has received honorary degrees from Boston University, Frostburg State University and Mount Saint Mary's College, and is the recipient of the President's Medal from The Johns Hopkins University.
 Byron also remains active in numerous civic organizations including the Maryland Committee on Physical Fitness and the American Hiking Society.
