FORMER MARSH & MCLENNAN COMPANIES CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER WILLIAM F. SOUDER. JR. PASSES AWAY

 NEW YORK, Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (NYSE: MMC) reported today that former chairman of the board and chief executive officer William F. Souder, Jr. died at the age of 82 on Friday, Nov. 19, 1993. He was living in Delray Beach, Fla. The cause of death was heart failure.
 Mr. Souder was named president and chief executive officer of Marsh & McLennan Companies in 1969, and was elected to the additional post of chairman in 1971. He retired from his management responsibilities in 1976, and continued serving as a director until 1983. He joined the company in 1952 when his firm, the Souder Insurance Agency in Indianapolis, Ind., was acquired.
 Mr. Souder was a native of Charlottesville, Va., and attended the University of Virginia. He served as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Italy during World War II. He served as president and director of the Western Golf Association in Golf, Ill., and trustee of Evans Scholars Foundation.
 Mr. Souder is survived by his wife, Susanna Jacobus; two sons, Scott of Delray Beach and William of Chicago; and a daughter, Suzanne Morrone of Westport, Conn.
