FORMER CONGRESSMAN JOHN MILLER ELECTED TO ATL BOARD

 BOTHELL, Wash., July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The ATL board of directors (Advanced Technology Laboratories Inc.) (NASDAQ: ATLI) has elected former U.S. Congressman John Miller as a director, Dennis C. Fill, ATL chairman and chief executive officer, announced today.
 Miller was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from the First District of Washington State from 1984 to 1992 and served on several congressional committees, including the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Prior to his election as congressman, Miller was a political commentator for KIRO TV (CBS), KIRO and KSEA radios in Seattle, an adjunct law professor at the University of Puget Sound Law School and had a private law practice. Miller also was elected to the Seattle City Council from 1972 to 1980 and served as its president in 1978. He is presently serving as a Senior Fellow at the Discovery Institute, a Seattle-based public policy center for national and international affairs.
 "Mr. Miller's distinguished career in law and public affairs, and his expertise in international policy and trade, will provide valuable insight and guidance to the growth of our worldwide business," Fill said. "We look forward to his contributions as a member of our board."
 A resident of Seattle, Miller received both his master's degree in economics and juris doctor degree from Yale University. He has a bachelor's degree from Bucknell University. Miller was admitted to the Washington State Bar in 1965.

 ATL with headquarters in Bothell is a worldwide leader in the development, manufacture, marketing and service of medical ultrasound systems. The company achieved revenues of $324 million in 1992, of which international business comprised over 40 percent.
