FORMER BTU AND GENRAD EXECUTIVE IS ELECTED NEW PRESIDENT OF EAI

FORMER BTU AND GENRAD EXECUTIVE IS ELECTED NEW PRESIDENT OF EAI
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J., Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The election of Richard G. Rogers as president and chief executive officer of Electronic Associates, Inc. (NYSE: EA) was announced today by the board of directors. The board last summer initiated a search for a new chief executive after receiving the resignation of former President Robert G. Finney.
Rogers comes to EAI from BTU International, producer of thermal reactors for the semi-conductor industry, where he was chief operating officer since 1988. Before that he served 28 years with GenRad, Inc., manufacturer of a wide range of electronic test systems and instruments. Rogers joined GenRad in 1960 as a sales engineer and rose through the ranks to become vice president of sales and services in 1978, a division general manager in 1981, and chief operating officer in 1986.
"Dick Rogers was selected by our search committee for his wealth of the right experience in the electronics business," said William R. Smart, chairman of the EAI board of directors. "Success in sales, marketing and general management were building blocks in an impressive record compiled in taking businesses to higher levels of sales and profitability."
While Rogers was chief operating officer at BTU, Smart pointed out, the company increased revenues from $48 million to more than $100 million. EAI sales this year will exceed $40 million, Smart said.
Smart also lauded Charles T. Parton, a member of EAI's board of directors who served as interim president until Rogers' appointment. "We are indebted to Charlie Parton for his willingness to step in as acting chief executive and for his remarkable performance in providing the necessary leadership during the period required to complete the search for a new president."
Rogers, 59, is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned degrees in electrical engineering and industrial management. He is a member of the American Electronic Association and served four years with the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957.
As vice president of sales and services at GenRad, Rogers managed 500 employees generating orders of $100 million a year. Subsequently he was general manager of two divisions. One, with 350 employees, had annual revenues of $30 million. The second, with 900 employees, shipped $100 million per year. GenRad in total employed more than 2,000 people and shipped $200 million a year during Rogers' tenure as chief operating officer.
The new EAI president is married and has two children. He will move his home from Massachusetts, where BTU is located, to New Jersey.
Electronic Associates, Inc. is engaged in three business lines, serving users and producers of electronic products and systems. In contract manufacturing, EAI provides manufacturing services for products designed and marketed by customers. In field service, the company offers independent maintenance of electronic equipment, with technicians across the United States and in Japan. In product engineering, EAI provides SIMSTAR(R), STARLIGHT(TM) AND VISIDAQ(R) products plus design and engineering services to private industry and government agencies. EAI is based in West Long Branch.
