FORE SYSTEMS' NXA-100 ATM COMPUTER INTERFACE BRINGS HIGH PERFORMANCE NETWORKING TO NEXTCUBE WORKSTATIONS

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Consistent with their earlier Statement of Direction, Fore Systems, Inc. extended workstation connectivity for their ForeRunner(TM) ATM LAN product family today by announcing availability of the NXA-100 ATM Computer Interface for NeXTcube workstations.
The NXA-100 adapter complements Fore Systems' existing line of ATM adapters for Sun, DEC, and Silicon Graphics workstations.
The NXA-100 is capable of transparently supporting high-speed data and distributed multimedia networking applications commonly run on the NeXTcube workstation. Support for TCP/IP makes the migration to NeXTcube ATM local-area networking simple, since there is no need to alter any existing software applications.
Available in two speed options, 100 and 140 Mbits/sec, the NXA-100 offers a number of attractive features and benefits including single-slot form-factor and standard ATM Cell formats permitting direct connections to ATM switches such as the ForeRunner 2.5 Gbits/sec ASX-100 ATM LAN Switch over widely available ST-terminated, 62.5/125 micron fiber-optic cable. In addition, the NXA-100 supports SPANS Switched and Permanent Virtual Circuits including dynamically-configurable multicast and broadcast.
"The NXA-100 ATM network adapter is critical for providing real-time support for NeXTSTEP multimedia applications in distributed network environments," said Tim Kreps, networking and communications product manager for NeXT Computer.
Pricing for the NXA-100 ATM Computer Interface adapters starts at $3,995 including system software.
Headquartered in Pittsburgh, Fore Systems develops, manufactures and markets ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) LAN products that enable information-intensive organizations to build and manage networks for high-speed data and multimedia applications. Fore Systems' ATM products include the 2.5 Gbits/sec ForeRunner ATM LAN Switch and a full line of ATM workstation adapter cards for Sun, DEC, Silicon Graphics, NeXT, HP, and VME-based workstations. To date, Fore Systems has shipped ATM products to over 50 customers worldwide.
