FORD VICE PRESIDENT HENRY A. NICKOL TO RETIRE

 DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Henry A. Nickol, vice president and general manager - Vehicle Operations, North American Automotive Operations, Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), will retire at year's end.
 Mr. Nickol's 40-year career at Ford has included a number of senior management positions throughout North American Automotive Operations. He was elected a vice president of Ford Motor Company in 1990. Prior to his present assignment, he was general manager of Powertrain Operations. There, he was an architect of Ford's future powertrain strategy, including the development of a family of modular engines and all-new automatic transmissions that will power Ford and Lincoln-Mercury vehicles into the next century.
 "Hank has been a dedicated and respected member of the company's management team, and his advice and counsel will be sorely missed," said Harold A. Poling, Ford chairman and chief executive officer. "We wish him well in his retirement."
 Starting Oct. 1, Mr. Nickol will report to Alex Trotman, president and chief operating officer, Ford Automotive Group, and will be involved in selected strategic planning matters.
 Trained as an engineer, Mr. Nickol, 61, joined Ford in 1953 as a co-op student and worked in research positions before being named manager of the Advanced Chassis Department, Product Development Group - Car Engineering, in 1968.
 He held several other senior positions in engineering management in the Product Development Group, Car Engineering, Chassis Division and Engine Division. He was named chief engine engineer in March 1975. Three years later, he assumed additional responsibility for all powertrain and chassis engineering.
 From 1984-86, he was general manager of Engine Division. He headed Transmission and Chassis Division from 1986-88.
 Mr. Nickol graduated from the University of Detroit with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and received his master's degree in engineering mechanics from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers. He was elected a fellow of the Engineering Society of Detroit in June 1986.
