FORD VEHICLE SALES CONTINUE GAIN IN DETROIT REGION
DETROIT, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Car and truck sales for dealers in

Ford Division's Detroit Region increased again in August compared to the same period in 1991.
Dealers in the Detroit Region -- which includes Michigan, northern Indiana and northwest Ohio -- sold 9,709 cars and 9,409 trucks, increases of 4.3 percent and 37.7 percent, respectively. For the first seven months of 1992, car sales in the region were up 9.3 percent and trucks increased 29.9 percent.
"Retail sales of the 1993 Probe in the region improved 152 percent above August of 1991," said Timothy A. Boese, Ford Division regional sales manager. "On the truck side, F-Series sales showed the way with a 96-percent increase from last August."
August was the ninth consecutive month that Ford's total company vehicle sales nationwide increased over the same period last year.
"Perhaps the biggest story in this year's auto market is the recovery of total vehicle sales, with trucks providing the impetus," said Boese. "Many car owners are crossing over to compact utilities, vans and pickups.
"This reflects, not a new phenomenon, but the continuation of a major, long-term trend that shows no evidence of abating."
Ford's rising truck share is approximately 30 percent of the market. So far this year, Ford products are the sales leaders in five of the six light truck market segments where the company competes, and Ford trucks account for three of America's top four truck nameplates.
