FORD UNVEILS 1993-MODEL FORD ESCORT AND PROBE
 BUFFALO, N.Y., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Ford Motor Company

(NYSE: F) unveiled the 1993-model Ford Escort and Probe to dealers and members of the news media at a dealer meeting being held in conjunction with the Buffalo Auto Show.
The Escort receives a facelift for 1993, and the new models will go on sale at dealerships in May -- four months ahead of the traditional fall introduction period.
The popular Escort GT model retains its current front-end treatment, but has a new rear spoiler, as well as new rocker panels and aluminum wheels.
"Our customers and some of our critics have asked us for more frequent styling changes and we're stepping up to the challenge," said Keith C. Magee, general marketing manager for the Ford Division of Ford Motor Company. "We completely redesigned the Escort less than two years ago and introduced two new four-door models last fall.
"The 1993-model Escort continues a steady stream of new product introductions at Ford. During 1992 alone, the company invested more than $5.6 billion in new products."
Last spring, Ford Division unveiled the all-new, full-sized 1992 Crown Victoria. Later in the year, the division introduced an all-new Econoline van lineup and major redesigns for its popular Taurus, Bronco sport utility and F-Series pickup. Ford also has added a Flareside pickup to the F-Series line, two new four-door Escort models, and a police package and a Touring Sedan to the Crown Victoria lineup.
In July, Ford dealers will unveil the 1993-model Probe.
The 1993-model Escort will be available in three-, four- and five- door models, in addition to a popular wagon version. Wagon models will offer a power liftgate lock feature with the optional power door lock systems for 1993. In the fall, a compact disc player will be added as an Escort option.
The new Escort will be offered in four series: Escort, LX, LX-E and GT -- and four body styles: three-door, four-door sedan, five-door and four-door wagon.
The 1993 Probe has an all-new aerodynamic, cab-forward design and new powertrain offerings. The new vehicle is lower and has a cowl (base of windshield) nearly three inches lower than the current Probe.
Ford's North American Design Staff is responsible for the 1993 Probe's exterior and interior design and Mazda is responsible for the car's engineering and componentry.
The Buffalo Auto Show runs through Sunday (Feb. 16) at the Buffalo Convention Center.
