FORD TAURUS WILL RECEIVE NATIONAL ECONOMIC AWARD

LIVONIA, Mich., Dec. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- President-elect Bill Clinton has placed the domestic economy at the forefront of his presidential agenda. The president-elect has spoken of the interdependence of jobs, manufacturing and national economic welfare.
Automotive manufacturing is widely recognized as a major job- providing industry and a significant contributor to the economic activity necessary to sustain this nation. Therefore, American Autodatum, an automotive research organization, believes that the passenger car that utilizes an extensive mix of domestic parts and labor to produce a high volume of U.S.-produced cars thus becomes the most significant passenger-car contributor to the U.S. economy and should be recognized.
Production data for the 1992 calendar year, supplemented by domestic content analysis, clearly indicates that the first annual recipient of the American Autodatum National Economic Award -- Cars is the Ford Taurus.
Taurus production at Atlanta and Chicago totaled 430,000 units at 92 percent domestic content, the equivalent of 396,000 domestic units. The 5,400 Atlanta and Chicago Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) employees build Taurus and Sable automobiles (77 percent Taurus, 23 percent Sable) and are supplemented by many thousands more in supplier and sub-assembly plants. The 1992 retail value of Taurus' domestic parts and labor totaled in excess of $7.5 billion, exceeding all other car lines by at least $3.0 billion. According to American Autodatum's analysis, Taurus was clearly the leading passenger-car contributor to this nation's 1992 economic activity.
