FORD SALES CONTINUE TO RISE IN CINCINNATI AREA

CINCINNATI, April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Led by the Ohio-built Ford Thunderbird and Ford Econoline, sales of Ford Division cars and trucks continued to increase in the Cincinnati area during March.
Car and truck sales in Ford Division's Cincinnati Region, which covers parts of Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia, Illinois, Tennessee and Virginia, each rose 15.4 percent compared to March, 1992.
"March was the 16th month in a row that Ford's total vehicle volume was up versus the prior year, in spite of the severe winter weather over much of the nation," said Joseph King, Ford Division's Cincinnati Region sales manager. "Our dealers remain optimistic that their market share increases during recent months will extend into the Spring selling season."
Thunderbird sales soared a whopping 107 percent in March compared with March, 1992, while Econoline sales climbed nearly 12 percent.
Sales of the Ford Bronco jumped nearly 127 percent in March, and sales of the spectacularly successful Ford Explorer climbed three percent.
Lincoln-Mercury dealers in the Cincinnati area also enjoyed double- digit sales increases in March as sales of their vehicles rose 16 percent.
Sales of the Ohio-built Mercury Cougar shot up 121 percent compared to March 1992. Other fast-selling Lincoln-Mercury products included the Lincoln Continental, up 115 percent, and the Mercury Tracer, up 109 percent.
Cincinnati area Ford Division dealers sold 930 cars and 1,715 trucks in March, and Lincoln-Mercury dealers sold 379 vehicles.
