FORD SALES CONTINUE TO RISE IN CINCINNATI AREA

CINCINNATI, March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Led by the Ohio-built Ford Thunderbird and Ford Econoline, sales of Ford Division cars and trucks continued to increase in the Cincinnati area during February.
Car sales in Ford Division's Cincinnati Region, which covers parts of Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia, Illinois, Tennessee and Virginia, rose two percent compared to February, 1992, while truck sales also increased nearly two percent compared to last year.
"There are many signs that the economic recovery is continuing," said Joseph King, Ford Division's Cincinnati Region sales manager. "Although consumer confidence recently has weakened somewhat, due primarily to uncertainties about President Clinton's budget proposal, the automotive market appears to have momentum."
Sales of the Lorain-built Thunderbird soared a whopping 71.9 percent in February compared with February, 1992, while sales of the Econoline, also built in Lorain, went up nearly four percent.
Sales of the Ford Probe, Motor Trend's 1993 "Car of the Year," jumped 110 percent versus year-ago levels.
Sales of the Ford Crown Victoria and Ford Tempo rose 34.4 and 22.4 percent, respectively, compared to February, 1992 levels. Sales of the Ford Ranger climbed nearly 20 percent.
"We're quite pleased with the February sales performance of our major new 1993 model products in the region," King said.
February was the 15th consecutive month that Ford's total vehicle volume was up versus the prior year despite the severe winter weather over much of the nation.
