FORD RELOCATES 800 EMPLOYEES TO DOWNTOWN DETROIT

DETROIT, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Relocation of an additional 800 Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) employees from Dearborn to downtown Detroit will be completed this week.
The relocation by Ford Parts and Service Division from its previous quarters on Schaefer Road in Dearborn to the Renaissance Center will bring the total Ford work force in downtown Detroit to 2,500 employees.
"This move will not only co-locate all of the major entities of Ford's North American Sales Operations Division under a single roof, but will contribute to Ford's commitment to revitalizing downtown Detroit," said Thomas J. Wagner, Ford vice president and Parts and Service Division general manager.
The 800 employees involved in the move will generate nearly $600,000 in additional annual tax revenue for the city -- boosting Ford employees' total personal tax base at the Renaissance Center to nearly $130 million.
In addition to the tax revenues, the Detroit-based Ford workers spend an additional $3 million annually in Detroit-area restaurants and stores according to company estimates.
The Parts and Service Division, with more than 1,000 on-site employees, is the largest single Ford entity headquartered in the Renaissance Center. The division's Customer Assistance Center, with more than 200 employees, has been in the complex since it was formed by the company in 1990. The structure also houses the Lincoln-Mercury Division, Ford Division, Ford Glass Division and several support activities.
The historic Ford Parts and Service Division General Office Building at 3000 Schaefer Road, Dearborn, was dedicated in 1928 and served as the headquarters facility for Henry Ford. It was the first facility specifically built to house the administration staff for the company. The building will be closed for an indefinite period of time while a Ford Motor Land Development study is conducted on its renovation requirements and future use.
