FORD ISSUES STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO THE EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF THE
REPORT BY THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES ON U.S. FUEL ECONOMY
WASHINGTON, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Ford Motor Company issued the following statement in response to the executive summary of the report by the National Academy of Sciences on U.S. Fuel Economy:
We have not analyzed the full report. But it is our understanding that it is balanced and useful, and it shows the trade- offs and difficulties in achieving the lower levels of fuel consumption that we are striving to attain. We understand that the report lists technically achievable fuel efficiency levels, but says that they may not be practical from a societal standpoint, noting that the levels should be discussed in connection with a variety of factors such as safety, the environment, consumers, manufacturers, labor and the economy as a whole. As we told the National Academy when we testified, we stand ready to be in the forefront of further discussions.
