     FORD IDLES NINE NORTH AMERICAN ASSEMBLIES; TO LOSE 24,000 UNITS
    DETROIT, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Ford has scheduled downtime at five U.S. car, two U.S. truck and two Canadian car facilities due to slow sales, according to the trade paper Automotive News.
    This week's estimated car production in the U.S. fell 8.85 percent below the prior week and 7.09 percent below the year-ago week.
    So far this year, 4,561,162 cars have been assembled, 14.79 percent below 1990 at this time.
    Truck assembly in the U.S. was scheduled at 91,085 units this week, 10.29 percent above the prior week and 4.97 percent above the year-ago week.
    Year-to-date truck production stands at 2,923,420 units, 14.05 percent below last year at this point.
    U.S. estimated car production this week was shared by manufacturers as follows:  General Motors, 49.52 percent; Ford Motor Co., 15.99 percent; Chrysler Corp., 10.36 percent; Honda of America Manufacturing Inc., 7.77 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. USA Inc., 3.78 percent; New United Motor Manufacturing Inc., 3.30 percent; Mazda Motor Manufacturing (USA) Corp., 3.13 percent; Diamond-Star Motors, 2.95 percent; Nissan Motor Manufacturing Inc., 2.22 percent; and Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 0.98 percent.
