FORD F-150 SUPERFLARE -- THE ULTIMATE SPORTY PICKUP TRUCK (Product Announcement)

FORD F-150 SUPERFLARE -- THE ULTIMATE SPORTY PICKUP TRUCK
DETROIT, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Ford has created a super truck -- the F-150 SuperFlareside, unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The Ford concept vehicle is designed to show off Ford's Flareside pickup truck and how appealing it could look in a rugged off-road application.
"The production Flareside Ford introduced late last year is regarded as the ultimate in a sporty pickup truck for the 1990s," said Andrew K. Jacobson, Ford's director of Truck Design. "With the SuperFlare SuperCab 4X4 model, we've gone well beyond those production design constraints to pinpoint the all-around versatility of the Flareside concept. What we have come up with is a truck truly as much at home on the road to the symphony as it is hauling a load in a rugged off-road environment.
"It looks bold. The ride is comfortable and the handling is superb," he added. "There is plenty of muscle under the hood to do the big truck jobs and it's a 4X4 which means it can go almost anywhere there's any kind of a road or trail. Most important, it's a real truck -- one we could bring to market when the time is right."
The bold look of the F-150 SuperFlare starts with an exterior finish in an intense cobalt blue with purple highlights accentuated by the rays of the sun or city lights. The unique color is carried through to the grille and bumpers as well as to the cab and 7-foot-long pickup box.
Aggressive-looking dual-power domes in the hood continue the bold theme as does a new combination front bumper/brush guard with integral fog lights, a unique cab step bar/roll bar with airfoil driving lights, a dual exhaust and equally aggressive-looking 17-inch wheels and tires.
The unique roll bar, which runs from the front wheel opening to the back of the cab, is two-dimensional in that it provides protection against damage to the cab as well as roll-over protection.
For an aerodynamic feeling, the SuperFlare's tailgate is modified and includes a new "duck tail" spoiler that opens to the pickup box. The SuperCab interior is as elegant and friendly as the exterior is bold. Interior and seat trim is in a saddle leather with a "spattered" paint treatment providing a sporty, contemporary appearance. Comfortable front bucket seats enhance driving pleasure. Color-keyed carpeting is extra-plush and there are front and rear shoulder and lap restraints.
Entertainment is provided by Ford's super premium sound system and to meet the need to conduct business on the go, there is a convenient cellular telephone.
Other major interior features include a new center console that extends from the instrument panel to the back of the front seats and leather-covered steering wheel, door panels and dash panel.
"With the light truck market spotlight on personal use vehicles, we're anxious to see what kind of feedback we get from the public on the Ford F-150 SuperFlare," Jacobson said. "We think it's a winner that is going to have a major impact on auto show attendees across the nation."
