FORD DIVISION ACHIEVES THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR OF SALES LEADERSHIP
DETROIT, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Car and truck buyers gave Ford Division its third consecutive calendar year of combined vehicle sales leadership in 1991 with a victory margin of 106,268 units over its nearest competitor.
"The real winners last year were the customers who took delivery of 2,344,619 new cars and trucks at Ford dealerships," said Ross H. Roberts, Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) vice president and Ford Division general manager.
"Ford Division took the No. 1 spot in total truck sales for the sixth year in a row," said Roberts. "Calendar-year truck sales of 1,263,329 gave the division an industry-leading 28.9 percent of the market -- more than 186,214 units ahead of its nearest competitor.
"We're also off to a strong start for the first three months of the 1992 model year with a combined car and truck sales lead of more than 77,469 units."
