FORD CREDIT TO OPEN REGIONAL OPERATIONS CENTER IN MARYLAND

FORD CREDIT TO OPEN REGIONAL OPERATIONS CENTER IN MARYLAND
COLUMBIA, Md., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Ford Motor Credit Company announced today it has selected Columbia as the site of its pilot regional operations center.
The center, the first of its kind at Ford Credit, will enable the company to test the benefits of bringing together in one facility activities like customer service and administration. These activities are now being handled by seven branch offices in Maryland and Virginia.
Ford Credit, based in Dearborn, Mich., will lease 50,000 square feet at Three Ponds Business Park in Columbia Gateway in Howard County off Interstate 95 and Route 175. The facility is owned by South Charles Realty Corporation, a subsidiary of MNC Financial, Inc. (NYSE: MNC). Terms of the lease were not disclosed.
Brad Capanyola, former manager of the company's Dallas branch, will be manager of the center.
Ford Credit plans to open the center in mid-1992 with approximately 175 employees who will move to the center from four Ford Credit branch offices in Maryland and northern Virginia. The center will employ approximately 250 by the end of 1992.
Ford Credit, which considered sites in Maryland and northern Virginia, chose Columbia for a number of reasons, including its central location and its nearby child-care facilities and other amenities for its work force. Columbia is about equal distance from each of Ford Credit's existing branch offices in the Baltimore/Washington area. Another factor was assistance from the State of Maryland's Department of Economic and Employment Development and the Howard County Office of Economic Development.
Ford Credit is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) and part of Ford's Financial Services Group. Ford Credit provides vehicle financing for about 4.5 million retail automotive customers and 8,500 Ford, Lincoln-Mercury, Ford Truck, Ford New Holland, and affiliated dealers in the United States, Canada and Australia. It also oversees the activities of the international financing affiliates of Ford Motor Company in 20 markets outside the United States, Canada and Australia, and it manages the insurance businesses of The American Road Insurance Company.
The company, which has 132 branch offices in the United States, employs 8,600. At Sept. 30, Ford Credit's assets totaled $57 billion.
