Hertz and Texaco Join Ford Rebate Program; Rebates Now Applicable Toward Purchase or Lease of Jaguar; Research Shows High Customer Satisfaction
NEW YORK, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) and Citibank MasterCard and Visa today announced the addition of Hertz and Texaco-branded retail outlets to the Ford Rebate Program.
Rebates now can be used toward the purchase or lease of a new Jaguar, making the Ford Citibank Card an attractive credit card option for consumers interested in a premium luxury car. The Ford Citibank Card continues to offer cardmembers the opportunity to earn substantial rebates on the purchase or lease of any new Ford, Lincoln or Mercury car, van or light truck. Customers can earn rebates equal to five percent of purchases up to a maximum of $700 per year, for a total rebate of $3,500 in five years. All cardmember rebates are over and above any other retail incentives available at the time of delivery.
Hertz and Texaco Purchases Earn Ten Percent Rebate
Hertz and Texaco now give cardmembers the opportunity to double the rebate to 10 percent on purchases made with the card at participating locations.
"We teamed up with Ford on an automotive rebate card because they make the best-selling cars and trucks in America," said Elizabeth Means, director of Product Group, Citibank MasterCard and Visa. "It was important to build on that level of quality when joining with other companies and Hertz and Texaco, both leaders in their industries, fit the criteria perfectly."
When using the Ford Citibank Card at participating Hertz and Texaco-branded retail outlets, cardmembers will receive the usual five percent Ford rebate, as well as an additional five percent promotional rebate, for a total 10 percent rebate on those purchases. Also, there is no limit to the promotional rebate cardmembers can earn at Hertz and Texaco (see note A), which means that cardmembers can continue to earn rebates even after reaching the $700 maximum per year on other purchases made with the card. Hertz is also offering cardmembers special rates and discounts at participating locations.
"Texaco is pleased to participate with Ford and Citibank to offer our customers the benefits of this unique rebate program," said Tom Matthews, president of Texaco Refining and Marketing Inc. "The Ford Rebate Program marks the formation of a valuable strategic alliance which will enhance our overall marketing strategy while providing an additional incentive for consumers to try Texaco's recently introduced New CleanSystem3 gasoline."
 Jaguar Joins Ford Rebate Program
The addition of Jaguar to the Ford Rebate Program gives cardmembers a unique opportunity. "Cardmembers now can apply rebates toward the purchase or lease of a new Jaguar XJ6, Vanden Plas, XJ12, XJS coupe, and XJS convertible," said Michael Dale, president -- Jaguar Cars. "No other premium luxury car manufacturer offers a comparable program."
 Research Shows High Customer Satisfaction
Citibank MasterCard and Visa recently conducted consumer research to measure Ford Citibank Card customer satisfaction levels and to determine whether an automotive rebate card has an effect on cardmember purchase behavior. Overall, the survey concluded that the rebate benefits of the Ford Citibank Card do positively affect usage.
Seventy-eight percent of those who already have redeemed rebates indicated that the card makes them "extremely/somewhat likely" to purchase or lease a Ford vehicle in the future. Additionally, 11 percent of those requesting a Ford Citibank Card claim that they would consider buying a Ford vehicle now, but did not consider it prior to obtaining the card. To date, more than 25,000 cardmembers have redeemed their rebates to purchase or lease a new vehicle.
"The Ford Citibank Card has been very successful in its first year," said Jim O'Connor, executive director -- Marketing Operations and Plans, Ford North American Automotive Operations. "Cardmembers already have earned more than $500 million in rebates and continue to earn more than $1 million in rebates per day."
The announcement of the addition of Hertz and Texaco-branded retail outlets to the Ford Rebate Program will be made to cardmembers through a direct mail program which began on April 1. Using the theme "The Ford Citibank Card Is Better Than Ever," a newsletter describes the Hertz and Texaco offers and the addition of Jaguar to the Rebate Program. A national print advertising campaign will begin in mid-April with "Get the Card that Gets you the Car" ads running in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today and several national magazines.
The Ford Citibank Card comes with many benefits and features, including the Photocard option and Fraud Early Warning. To apply for the Ford Citibank Card, interested consumers should call 1-800-374-7777.
