 FORD CHAIRMAN ISSUES STATEMENT
DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a

statement by Harold A. Poling, chairman of the board and chief executive officer, Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), on the retirement of Philip E. Benton Jr.:
"As you know, Phil Benton has announced he will retire on Jan. 1.
I would like to take advantage of this occasion to recognize the substantial contributions Phil has made to Ford Motor Company, its employees and its dealers over his entire career of more than 39 years. He has served the company with dedication and distinction, in the process earning the respect, admiration and friendship of his colleagues and associates throughout the world, both inside and outside the company.
We will miss his many contributions, as well as his foresight and counsel, and we wish him the very best in a long and happy retirement.
With Phil's retirement, we have made some adjustments in our senior management team that include an expanded Office of the Chief Executive. It is this management team that will lead Ford Motor Company during these difficult times and on into the future.
They are talented, experienced, seasoned and compatible, and it is my job and theirs to lead the entire Ford team of employees, suppliers and dealers into a successful future. This management team has the complete support of the Board.
The baton of leadership is passing smoothly and as planned. The company will continue to move with vigor along the path that our strategies have laid out for us.
There are many challenges ahead; in fact, as you may have heard me say on many occasions ... it's a tough old world out there. But I have a lot of faith that the great Ford team will meet the challenges ahead successfully, as we move into the final decade of our first 100 years.
As for me, I'll be retiring late next year. But, there are many months left before I announce the exact date.
And, if I could offer a constructive suggestion, it would be to not look forward to each Board meeting in the near term for a special announcement. I can assure you that, when the time comes, I will meet with all of you again."
