FORD ANNOUNCES SERVICE ACTION

DETROIT, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Owners of certain 1993-model Lincoln Town Car, Mercury Grand Marquis, and Ford Crown Victoria vehicles equipped with optional traction assist systems are being informed of a customer service program being offered by Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F).
Some of these vehicles may have been built with electronic control units which will not allow the traction assist function to be activated. There is no effect on vehicle braking or the anti-lock brake system.
Under the program, the electronic control units installed in these vehicles will be inspected and, if necessary, will be replaced. This action is being undertaken by Ford voluntarily as part of its ongoing commitment to satisfy customers; it is not a safety recall.
Owners are being notified by mail of the availability of this program. Ford and Lincoln-Mercury dealers will perform this service without charge. About 8,600 vehicles are included in this program, of which about 500 are located in Canada.
