FORD'S WAYNE PLANT RECEIVES Q1 AWARD

WAYNE, Mich., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The employees of Ford Motor Company's (NYSE: F) Wayne Stamping and Assembly Plant build America's best-selling small car -- the Ford Escort. And today they were recognized for their quality achievements in a big way.
The plant received Ford's coveted Q1 Quality Achievement Award -- the 101st company facility to be so honored. The award recognizes Ford plants "as having in place processes and systems for continuous improvement in meeting customers' needs and expectations."
Ed Hagenlocker, vice president -- General Operations, Ford North American Automotive Operations, and Ernie Lofton, UAW vice president and director of the National Ford Department, presented the Q1 Award to Art Janes, plant manager, and Jeff Washington, UAW Local 900 president.
"Winning the Q1 Award is a major achievement," Hagenlocker told the employees. "In gaining this honor, you have joined an exclusive club of Ford employees who have attained the high standards set in the judging process.
"Wayne's achievement is clear and convincing evidence that the men and women of Ford Motor Company are capable of competing with any automaker in the world in producing quality products," he added.
Hagenlocker also said Wayne's quality efforts are important in helping Ford reach its goal of being the best in the industry.
The plant, which opened in 1952, has approximately 3,900 employees.
