FOR THE HOLIDAYS: NON-ALCOHOLIC DRINKS FROM THE NAPA VALLEY
NAPA VALLEY, Calif., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- What do you serve your guests this holiday season who don't like soda pop and don't want anything alcoholic to drink?
If you're chef Cindy Pawlcyn, of the renowned Mustard's Grill Restaurant in Napa Valley, you develop your own unique recipes.
"I try to provide my customers with the very best in food and drink," says Pawlcyn. "Whether it's a great wine or something non- alcoholic, if I serve it, I want it to be very special and very good."
This year Pawlcyn worked with her Napa Valley neighbor, the Crystal Geyser Water Co., to develop a series of delicious non-alcoholic cocktail recipes for the holidays.
"The most spectacular drink is for after dinner," says Pawlcyn. "Take a tall rocks glass, add 1-1/2 oz. warm chocolate sauce, 1 double espresso, 2 oz. of ice cubes and top it off with Crystal Geyser Vanilla Creme Mountain Spring Sparkler. For the perfect look, dust the top with cocoa or chocolate powder.
"Another variation is what I call a 'Coffee Soda,'" says Pawlcyn. "I mix a double espresso and steamed milk into an equal amount of Crystal Geyser Vanilla Creme Mountain Spring Sparkler. It's a great way to finish the evening."
For the cocktail hour, Pawlcyn has other ideas. "My favorite is a non-alcoholic aperitif," she says. "At Mustard's Grill we carry a non- alcoholic Italian bitters called San Pellegrino. I fill a tall shot glass with ice, add 1-1/2 oz. of bitters, and top it off with either Crystal Geyser Pink Lemonade Juice Squeeze or Orange and Passion Fruit Juice Squeeze. It's the perfect drink before dinner because it really wakes up your taste buds.
"Our 'Bay Breeze' is perfect for the middle of the afternoon," says Pawlcyn. "It's very simple. I add 2 oz. of cranberry juice, 2 oz. of grapefruit juice and 4 oz. of Crystal Geyser Mineral Water."
Pawlcyn also has her own recipe for lemonade. "I start with a glass full of crushed ice, add 2 oz. of fresh lemon juice, 1 oz. of simple syrup and fill with Crystal Geyser Sparkling Mineral Water.
"The Napa Valley is one of the best wine regions in the world," says Pawlcyn, "people here like to eat and drink well, but in moderation, so they can enjoy their friends and family. That's what the holidays are all about."
