FOP organizes walk to create awareness regarding spinal cord diseases.
PESHAWAR -- Paraplegic Centre and Friends of Paraplegics (FOP) here Monday organized a walk demanding observance of world day to create public awareness regarding various spinal cord injuries.
The walk was led by office bearers of FOP including Nudrat Gul, Eng.
Irfanullah, Ehsan Danish and participated by people from different cross section of society.
Addressing the walk, speakers said that according to a report of WHO in 2013 a total of 250,000 to 500,000 people become crippled due to various injuries of spinal cord and annual ratio of these kinds of patients in Pakistan is seven to ten thousands.
They said that most of the patients were unable to move their lower body parts and faced permanent disability.
Fifty to sixty percent of the injured commit suicide or lost their lives in first two to three years as they were unable to get proper treatment due to lack of awareness.
