FOOTBALL: GLENAVON AWAIT MOURN-ING CALL.

MOURNEVIEW Park's days as big-game hosts could be over as the Irish Football Association meet tomorrow to investigate last week's shocking riot-filled scenes.

After Glentoran's 6-1 win over Portadown in the Irish Cup semi-final, over 100 fans from both clubs broke ranks, invaded the pitch and fought a sickening battle before stewards managed to regain control.

Even before the tie, Glens boss Roy Coyle claimed that there was "a disaster waiting to happen" at Mourneview.

Now a senior IFA official has admitted this could be the last big tie for Mourneview, which will stun Glenavon who have worked so hard to upgrade their Lurgan ground.

IFA bigwigs will discuss the trouble tomorrow and consider the choice of venue, which was chosen ironically by the IFA senior clubs committee.

An IFA insider said: "Any chance of Mourneview Park holding a big Irish Cup semi-final again is extremely unlikely after what happened last Saturday.

"As a club Glenavon have done a lot of hard work, but had the game been at Linfield's ground, Windsor Park, as was suggested by many people, the trouble would never have happened.

"Unfortunately a small hooligan element on both sides ruined what was a great occasion. Most people now will remember the semi-final for what happened after the match, rather than the game itself."

Glenavon, who refused to comment, are due to hold a board meeting this week.
