FOOTBALL SPY: Evans is heading job Race.

FORMER Liverpool boss Roy Evans (above) is tipped to become the new Wrexham manager after the League Two strugglers sacked Denis Smith.

Smith leaves the Racecourse after five years in charge, having stuck by the club during 18 months of administration and several boardroom battles which almost saw the Welsh outfit go to the wall.

Evans, 58, currently assistant to Wales manager John Toshack, has a close friendship with Wrexham chairman and owner Neville Dickens. Coach Brian Carey has been placed in temporary charge.
