FOOTBALL: Sven 'No' to Home Nations.

SVEN-GORAN Eriksson ruled out any return to regular Home Nations fixtures in the wake of the 2-0 victory over Wales in their World Cup qualifier.

Although Wales did not pose as much of a physical challenge as they had promised, Eriksson sees no reason to impose such a test on his players in friendly games during a packed fixture calendar.

The England coach does not wish to be seen to be dismissing Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland as international also-rans. However, he will continue to seek friendlies against nations higher in the world rankings, such as Spain, whom England play next month in Madrid.

Eriksson admitted: "I don't think you can fix those games into the fixture list to meet all those teams every year.

"When you play a friendly on a Wednesday, with the players having important club games either side, I don't think it is a good idea to play Scotland or Wales, where it's life or death."
