FOOTBALL: Sturrock gets pounds 3 million to play with.

DUNDEE UNITED are poised to hand Paul Sturrock nearly pounds 3m to buy new players after a new deal with the Bank of Scotland.

The Tannadice club - who have been blasted over the last 18 months for failing to find new finance - revealed the cash injection in a letter sent to season ticket-holders last night.

The money comes in the form of a guaranteed credit facility with the bank and most of it will be available to boss Sturrock, who has spent about pounds 2m since he arrived from St Johnstone last year.

United chairman Jim McLean said: "The bulk of the money will go towards strengthening the playing side.

"I would also assure our fans that this arrangement does not jeopardise the future of Dundee United. We have not had to put even one per cent of the club up as security."
