FOOTBALL: SAVAGE RUNS INTO TROUBLE; EXCLUSIVE.

Byline: ALAN NIXON

ROBBIE Savage faces an FA investigation - for using the referee's toilet.

Leicester's fiery Welsh midfielder is at the centre of a bizarre probe after referee Graham Poll included the incident in his match report following the Premiership clash with Aston Villa.

Savage needed to answer a call of nature before the Midlands derby and burst into the officials room at Filbert Street because he claimed the dressing room toilet was engaged. The Foxes star had a stomach upset caused by taking antibiotics for a gashed ankle.

Savage was caught in the act by Poll and the pair had a laugh about it - and some typical toilet humour followed. The banter between the referee and player went on while Savage completed the job, but the mood changed when the referee's assessor walked into the room.

Savage was stunned to find out Poll had included what he thought was a passing incident in his report and a pal said: "Robbie thought they were taking the p***."

However the FA confirmed last night: "We have been made aware of an incident in the referee's room involving Robbie Savage. This is alleged to have happened before the game." Poll's report claims Savage left the toilet door open, made a rude remark, did not wash his hands and wiped them on the assessor's blazer instead.

Savage denies the allegations and is fuming about the way the affair is being blown up. He was unavailable for comment last night, perhaps otherwise engaged.

But there may not be a funny side in this for Savage. Leicester are even threatening to fine him pounds 50,000 for the bust-up.

Savage - voted Leicester's player of the year - has stated he is happy to stay with the relegated club but this may close the door on his career there.
