FOOTBALL: No Beck-lash for naughty Kaiser.

IF YOU thought England were OTT in celebrating their sporting heroes they ain't a patch on Germany.

Franz Beckenbauer turned 60 last Sunday but such was the scale of the tributes paid to him you would have been forgiven for thinking the country's greatest player had died.

Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung's back page was given over entirely to The Kaiser, relegating the weekend's action to the inside, while a headline writer fawned: "He has a gift that would be described as God-given."

Even Chancellor Gerhard SchrUder, campaigning for re-election, told Beckenbauer: "You have always remained modest and reserved despite your fame and great success."

No mention of Franz's extra marital naughties and illegitimate child then
