FOOTBALL: MACCA MAKES DELE SWOOP.
GARY McAllister is poised to make Dele Adebola his fourth signing of the summer tomorrow as he bids to end the chronic goal shortage that hampered Coventry last season.
After clearing the decks at the end of the campaign, McAllister's rebuilding operation is well under way and the Scot has added Albion Rovers' highly-rated 'keeper Scott Shearer to the roster as well as snapping up Wrexham hot-shot Andy Morrell, the third division's top scorer last term, and 21year-old Graham Barrett from Arsenal.
He now looks set to add the Nigerian-born Adebola to the ranks to add even more options to his strike force.
Adebola, who once cost Birmingham City pounds 1 million and notched over 40 goals in 150 appearances for the St Andrew's club, spent last season at Selhurst Park under Trevor Francis.
He is surplus to requirements under new boss Steve Kember and would be a key player for McAllister, who knows he must produce the goods this season.
I understand that, despite rumours to the contrary, negotiations are at an advanced stage and City hope to unveil the talismanic striker early next week.
The move would suit all parties as the Sky Blues desperately need more firepower and the 27-yearold, who has a proven goalscoring track record, would relish the chance to get his career back on track after an abortive year at Crystal Palace.
SURPLUS... Dele Adebola
