THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF BBC1, 8pm KEBAB shops across the land sell those sticky, nutty little cakes called baklava, so how hard can they be to make yourself? Very, when it's the Bake Off semi-final and the judges expect you to make your own filo pastry from scratch.

As Chetna, Luis, Nancy and Richard roll out their super-thin sheets, you'll be reminded of Lady Cassandra from Doctor Who who was just a piece of skin stretched out on a frame.

Sue Perkins will be modelling this look for you tonight, although she ends up looking more like The Invisible Woman.

speaking of kebab shops, The technical challenge is a variation on a German cake that's traditionally made on a rotisserie and looks like an iced hog roast.

Our fab four just have to grill theirs - all 20 layers of it - and, yes, Paul will be counting.

Finally, Paul and Mary order 24 show-stopping entremets, which is French for "ridiculously fancy little cakes".

In order to get to the final, our bakers will be combining jellies, mousses, chocolate work, butter cream, custard, glazes and biscuits.

Let's hope they remember to leave room for some cake in there, too.
