FOOD LION TO DONATE 80,000 POUNDS OF FOOD TO LOUISIANA HURRICANE

VICTIMS THURSDAY; RELIEF CONVOY MOVES INTO LOUISIANA FROM FLORIDA

 WHAT: National Press Conference
 The Food Lion grocery chain and the American Red Cross
 will hold a Louisiana-based national press conference
 on Thursday, Sept. 3, to disburse 80,000 pounds of
 food collected by Food Lion's 938 stores in a 13-state
 region to the victims of Hurricane Andrew.
 WHO: Food Lion President Tom Smith and the American Red
 Cross will be in attendance as well as other
 dignitaries.

 Baton Rouge, La.
 BACKGROUND:
 Immediately following Hurricane Andrew's rampage, Food
 Lion organized a convoy of Food Lion "Hurricane
 Emergency Relief" trucks to disburse emergency rations
 to the victims of Hurricane Andrew in Florida and
 Louisiana.
 On Wednesday, Food Lion trucks disbursed goods in
 Miami, and Food Lion President Tom Smith presented
 an oversized check for $100,000 donated by Food Lion
 employees to American Red Cross officials to help
 expedite emergency relief to the victims in both
 Florida and Louisiana. Food Lion employees voluntarily
 donated the $100,000 to the American Red Cross.
