FOOD LION NAMES NATALIE TAYLOR DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS/EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT

 SALISBURY, N.C., Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Food Lion, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: FDLN) today announced executive Natalie Taylor to director of Community Affairs/Employee Development for the supermarket chain. In this new position, Ms. Taylor will be responsible for Food Lion's outreach efforts to local organizations in the communities served by the company, and will direct Food Lion's development program for the chain's 60,000 employees.
 Ms. Taylor, formerly Food Lion's employee development supervisor, has previously served the company as a front end training supervisor and store manager. She joined Food Lion as a cashier in 1983.
 In announcing her promotion, Food Lion President and CEO Tom E. Smith said, "Food Lion's phenomenal growth over the past decade is due to the efforts of dedicated employees like Natalie Taylor. Ms. Taylor's promotion reflects Food Lion's commitment to employee development and to building strong relationships with the communities we serve."
 Ms. Taylor is a member of the American Society of Training and Development, the Cornell University Home Study Advisory Board, and Mt. Zion Baptist Church. A graduate of Radford University, Ms. Taylor resides in Greensboro, N.C., with her husband Tim and son Ryan.
 Based in Salisbury, N.C., Food Lion operates nearly 1,100 stores in 14 states.
